Creative Destruction of Junk

Keeping up with you guys is so hard! I've definitely been slacking, but I have not stopped being creative. Never that! So you'll never guess what this is...or maybe you will...

It's one of the sad little bottom inserts of old dresser drawers!!
The dresser was falling apart, I'd had it for 3 years and that's a lot from a "Target RE" piece that I sloppily put together myself! Now guess what I did with it...

Oh yeah! I took all 6, sanded them, painted them white, and so far have painted 4 of them as funky art pieces! One is me and my hubby's favorite line in the corn ball movie "Blades of Glory" ahaha! (Oh boy, excuse my paint abused balcony...I gotta fix that!)

By the way, I used every piece of the dresser!! Even the frame! I'll show what I did with that once I actually do something with it...right now it's hidden but still functioning appropriately.

So what do you think? I'm so happy that I was able to find use for my own junk! I have such an obsession with bringing others peoples junk home, it was cool to find a project right here. Lol!

Now I just have to put them up! The entry way to my living room is the best place...the paintings fit on either side of the doorway perfectly. See! I measured, leveled, and taped where two of the paintings will go, the two others will go on top. (This is just one side of my hall, entryway on the right)

Okay! Super tired! Gonna go scrape the filling out of some Oreo's and climb on my couch to work on Roberta! Nite!

Roberta Update!

She's coming along super slow. I get so busy with the house and the baby that I barely ever have a quiet minute for myself, which is the only time I have to enjoy a good crochet.

It's okay though, shes an old lady, that Roberta! Ahahaha

What Is Up W/ Chicken?!

I don't know, but it's good! I roasted chicken yet again, this time a full roaster... 6 bucks of deliciousness!
I'm exhausted so I won't say much, I'll just tell you what flavors I experimented with this time around.

A Lemon and onion quartered inside.
Garlic under the skin.
No oil, no butter  (crazy!!...I was out)
Mrs. Dash Original +
Salt, Pepper +
Ginger +
All Spice +
Red Pepper flakes =

Oh Yeah GOOD!

I roasted this in a pot...Nothing special, no dutch oven over here, though I would love one more than anything, just a simple nonstick Teflon pot that I usually use for boiling pasta. Covered for 1hour uncovered for 20-30min. Done!
Oh, and I made those beautiful smashed...not mashed potatoes by boiling the red potatoes quartered in salted water until knife goes through one no. No butter, no oil. Mash the potatoes and add LITE MAYO. I added a quarter cup to 4 medium sized red potatoes.

Must Sleep Now!!!

Dinner: Flavored Roast Chicken

I was so super proud of how 'PrettyMade" my roast chicken looked that I had to post a picture. There is nothing spectacular about the dinner but that chicken breast just looked gorgeous!

I love roasting chicken, either whole roasters or just chicken breast. I buy huge value/family packs and separate enough for multiple meals before cleaning them, salt and peppering, and freezing them. Every time I take chicken out for dinner I get to experiment. I don't think there is a science to flavoring chicken. As long as you know what flavors you like or are curious about and don't go overboard, you will be pleasantly surprised, often.
My go to add ins are a one lemon and one small onion quartered and stuffed inside with garlic and butter stuffed under the skin. THE BEST! Garlic gives so much flavor to any meat, and with garlic you can take it easy on the salt! Salt causes water retention, meaning...BLOAT!
This chicken breast is seasoned with salt, pepper, cayenne (I put this in a lot of dishes...metabolism rev anyone?), Sazon w/ azafran, and a drizzle of olive oil. I Put the three whole breast in heavy duty foil, wrapped it up and pulled a thumb size hole open at the top. After 45min to an 1hour at 400 degrees I took them out, poured all of the juices out then put it back in the oven unwrapped for 20min or so. The 20min give the skin a chance to crisp up! Take them out and let them rest for at least 10min and you good to go. The foil method made these breast so juicy! If you season the chicken a few hours beforehand and leave them in a covered container at room temperature you have a better chance of the flavors really penetrating.
Experimenting with different flavor combinations is so fun. Make it simple or get crazy!

Dinner (last night) Chicken & Chick Pea

I love soup, majorly! Last night I dug through my fridge and cabinets and found my recipe panties (onions, carrots, celery, garlic) and a few extras like the chick peas, canned mushrooms, and some frozen corn. Of course some olive oil and I had some chicken breast that I salt and peppered in the fridge and I love Sazón, so with all of that...I went to town! I'm no chef, so I won't give a play by play, but everything that's in the soup was just listed...in order! Lol it's goooood! Oh, ad healthy...wheres the fat? Not here!

Sunday Crocheting

Sunday is such a lazy, hazy day...love them!  Unfortunately today I couldn't get out of a funk. My body just felt run down, so it was an especially lazy day. Being in the funky mood that I was I decided to start a new blanket. I'm such a color fanatic that its hard to not use neon orange and electric blue yarn! Who, other than tweens and teen, is going to want to get cozy under a shocking yellow or crazy fuchsia blanket? Nobody I know! The colors to this blanket are somewhat muted and neutral. If you haven't noticed the colors also seem unmatched...That's the beauty of crocheting though. Using colors together that you wouldn't usually put together is so fun and the end result can be so uniquely gorge or awkwardly unfit. I love the surprise of it all. i think I'll name my blankets as well. Hmmm...Roberta. Yes! Here is the beginning of Roberta.

Getting The Bones Down

Today was a pretty lazy day. I slept in and relaxed around the bedroom with the baby and the hubz. Fun! But after a while I think I started feeling caged in, plus I hate leaving things undone, so I decided to put the Ektorp set together. I love Ikea and when I saw this set with blue covers I was in love. I've been wanting a blue couch for so long. I've been hiding behind chocolate couches for years so I was ready for something different and blue is just so chic and calming. The Ektorp is especially special to me because its just a base, pillows and slip covers!!! Which means I won't cry when my 8 yr old and his dirty hands or my 3 month old and her spit up touch the pretty blue seating. We got the peices up pretty quickly so I threw my spare Klubbo together as well (I got 2 last year because the price was too good to pass up, but only had a need for one). Did I mention I love Ikea? I consider Ikea the bones to a room. The tables, the seating, the lamps, the framing...everything is simply made so that anyone can put their own spin on their room. With the seating up and the fresh Klubbo down, it's time to add on. I need to make a few special pillows and paint the Klubbo and table that runs along the back of the couch. Yay! Here is where I am now...
Drink approved!! It's midnight and babies are in the bed...I've got my drink and my yarn...I'm a happy girl.
Sorry about the horrible picture quality. I was too lazy to upload the pics from my camera so I snapped a few with the IPhone. But it's just an Ikea assembly so no biggie, right? :) Oh, and the weird wall color...it was much prettier when this was my bedroom and ther was pretty soft plush bedding and cream colored furniture (it really ofset the bright teal walls that I just HAD TO HAVE)!
